The Luque farce

It seems I can’t get away from the moaning about this man any more. People seem to be dead sure he wants to leave, and does not try his hardest when he plays for us.

Well would it be a surprise if he wanted to leave, bearing in mind the way the fans and media are treating him?

The lad has come over from Spain, a country he has played in all his life. It’s not just a new league; it’s a new home, new lifestyle and a new chapter in his life. On top of that he almost instantly suffered one of the worst muscle injuries an athlete can get after making just a couple of appearances. Yet I hear discontent at the fact he has not scored; he is too slow, he isn’t trying hard, hell he doesn’t even like the cold! Ridiculous.

He needs to be built up to the Premier League - it’s a huge culture shock when you switch between these leagues, even without a muscle tear.

Look how long it takes some players to settle, Jose Reyes is a good example of a Spanish import. Many people were branding him a waste of money not long after he joined Arsenal, it took him a long time to show people why Wenger paid so much for him.

With Luque, the fans must show more patience.

It’s hardly like he is standing out like a sore thumb either. The whole team isn’t exactly on fire at the moment! I simply can’t understand it. It is like people just want an excuse to moan (and get at Souness I’d imagine).

This boy is quality on his day; everyone knows why we shelled out the money for him. His reputation in Spain was second to none. He has been sought after for years and we are lucky to have him at United. So let’s give him a bit of backing. Let’s chant his name and show him that we do want him at the club, because it would be a real shame to lose such a quality player without him ever showing us what he can really do in black and white.

He certainly has my support.
