Souey to Butt: Thank you

Newcastle Manager Graeme Souness has thanked possible Middlesbrough target Nicky Butt for playing against Deportivo despite sickness.

The England international received thanks and praise from his manager, but Souness would not comment on Butt’s future at the club.

Souness said:

"Nicky was ill with gastro-enteritis as soon as we arrived in La Coruna and he missed both of our training sessions before the game with Deportivo.

"He was actually sick 10 minutes before the match but he still wanted to play and we wanted him to play, and all credit to him.

"We had a contingency plan that he came off after 10 minutes after the start if he felt he wasn't up to it but not only did he get through the full 90 minutes but he did well for us."

Butt has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough, with Mark Viduka coming the other way, but negotiations are at a very early stage.

What do you think to Butt? Should he stay or should he go? Let us know by emailing the MailBag at tynetalk@gmail.com
