Spurs' striker Robbie Keane, has talked to three of his international team-mates about a move to Newcastle United, report the Evening Chronicle. The Republic of Ireland striker asked Shay Given, Stephen Carr and Andy O'Brien about the set-up at St James' Park while on international duty this month. It is common knowledge that Graeme Souness is in need of a striker, with Alan Shearer ready to retire, Craig Bellamy's future at the club in doubt, and Patrick Kluivert leaving the club. And with Shola Ameobi out until the end of August at least, Alan Shearer and Michael Chopra are the only two available strikers at the club - and look set to lead Newcastle into next month's Intertoto Cup.

24-year-old Keane, in the final year of his contract, played a bench role for Spurs during much of last season with Defoe and Kanoute leading the front line and is expected to leave White Hart Lane.

Spurs' could be willing to sell the striker, to avoid losing him on a free once his contract runs out - could Keane be the man Souness is looking for?

Souness is Souness also reportedly ready to test Manchester United's determination to keep former Leeds' striker Alan Smith, with a £7 million bid.

A final option would be to play Dyer up front.
