French winger Laurent Robert launched an attack on manager Graeme Souness earlier this week after the Magpies' boss had called him lazy. Robert also claimed that there was no communication between himself and the Toon boss, but Souness has today spoken out over the situation... ... and claims to understand just why the former Paris Saint Germain may currently be unhappy at the club.

The French player has been linked with a move away from Newcastle, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly interested, but Souness is refusing to comment on the matter. He did speak about the situation though.

Quoted on Sky Sports: "I can understand why players get upset if they are not in the team.

"We have 20-odd players here and, in picking 11 players, you're going to get unhappy players and that's where he finds himself at this moment in time.

"I'm not going to talk about him in great detail because what's important for us is to prepare for the game at Blackburn.

"I've said we've got to get the best out of the group. If some people find themselves out of the team it would be very difficult for anybody to be too unhappy because we're trying to come up with a winning formula."
