The Ritz Hotel - What Happened?

Magpies' striker Craig Bellamy is confused as to why the Ritz Hotel sent a letter of complaint to Newcastle regarding behaviour of squad members who were staying in London. It was understood that several Newcastle players (reportedly including Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert) upset members of staff with unruly behaviour.

Chairman Freddy Shepherd denied the claims, saying: "I have received no letter of complaint from the Ritz."

But, speaking after the Liverpool game, Souness confirmed: "I received that letter, and I am not going to tell anyone what was in it.

"They are boys, it was their day off and I am not going to comment on it further."

Bellamy though, said: "There is no story. What are we supposed to have done? All that happened was that when I went back to the hotel early in the morning they would not give me my key.

"So I said to them let me go to the room and get my bags and give me my money back.

"They rang another guy who said it was all right for me to go to the room.

"Patrick is used to things and stories like this in Spain but he cannot believe all this. There is no story - it's not even laughable."
