Andy D’Urso has been charged by the FA for not dealing out a red card after booking Blackburn midfielder Barry Ferguson TWICE in their match against Southampton at the weekend.

Andy D’Urso has been charged by the Football Association for not dealing out a red card after booking Blackburn midfielder Barry Ferguson TWICE in their match against Southampton at the weekend.

The yellow cards came just seven minutes apart but D’Urso failed to deliver a sending off.

The fourth official called Andy D’Urso over to him after the incident but he still didn’t show a red card and the player remained on the pitch.

The referee’s book states two bookings with the second reading “second book able offence” after crossing out “sent off.”

The whole 90 minutes of the game were under scrutiny yesterday as several other controversial incidents came to light including a last minute penalty which James Beattie fired into the back of the net giving Southampton their first win of the season.

Andy D’Urso is charged with "less than proficiently applying the laws of the game".

Former Referee Clive Thomas spoke out about the incident:

"What The FA should be doing, without a doubt, is calling the four officials in to see what happened,"

"They should be suspended immediately for two or three matches. You cannot have that in a top-class league.

"It's a disgrace."
