Newcastle Masters Side Slumps to Defeat!

Newcastle's representatives in the Northern Masters competition today let themselves down badly, following up an emphatic victory over Blackburn with defeat to North-East neighbours Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

After a 6-0 thrashing of Blackburn, with a hat-trick from top marksman Peter Beardsley, the Toon side were unable to muster anything more as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat against Middlesbrough, former Toon player John Hendrie notching one for the Smogs against his old club.

As if that wasn't humiliating enough, the fair-sized home crowd in the Telewest Arena was then subjected to an embarassingly poor 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, despite the mackems being a man short for the last couple of minutes due to a sending off.

Some serious rebuilding work needs to be done, and with Gazza, Alan Shearer and Rob Lee all having expressed an interest in playing in the tournament in the future, things can only get better for the Newcastle Masters side!
