Newcastle United and Arsenal both had to share the points this afternoon at St James' Park in a goalless draw - in a game of few clear-cut chances.

Newcastle 0 - 0 Arsenal

Arsenal (who have not yet lost a game this season) extended their unbeaten Premiership record to all 32 games this season.

Jonathon Woodgate was a hero for the Magpies' at the heard of defence, keeping Thierry Henry and Jose Reyes at bay.

It was Newcastle who had the first opportunity to take the lead through Welsh striker Craig Bellamy, but his snap shot was well saved by Gunners' goalkeeper, Jens Lehmann who did well to get down to the ball. Lehmann was a key player for Arsenal, as it was his clean handling that kept Newcastle's strikers out of the net. His temper however was once again tested and questioned as he reacted theatrically to legitimate challenges from the Newcastle forwards at set pieces.

Arsenal maybe should have taken the lead just before the break when Sylvain Wiltord pounced on a poor Jermaine Jenas backpass, but scuffed his shot wide.

Henry might have done better when he beat the offside trap but pushed the ball just too far beyond Magpies' keeper Shay Given to give himself a decent shooting angle. He did find the post, but Reyes was unmarked in the box.

Thierry Henry did however find Reyes moments later when his perfect right wing cross found the Spaniard, but his header was fairly poor - straight at Given.

Gunners' defender Kolo Toure might have snatched victory at the death after meeting a Pires conrner, but the header was wide of the post, much to the relief of Robson's men.

A goalless draw is probably a fair result at the end of the day, as neither side managed to create many half-decent chances.

The result leaves the Magpies in fifth place in the Premiership, level with fourth-placed Liverpool on 49 points. Liverpool however have a better goal difference.
