ACADEMY KIDS

Sir Bobby said: "Our Academy has to work. Its aim is to stop future players like Michael Bridges from leaving the area.

"With the facilities we now have, we can stop them by saying: `Look what you've got here on your own doorstep'.

"At Ipswich, I had every young player in that area - but I used to get players from Cumbria and the North East too.

"I took Geordies to Ipswich: David Geddis, Eric Gates, Kevin Beattie - OK, Beattie was from Carlisle but he should have gone to Newcastle. Others went to Burnley.

"From now on, we've got to make sure that any local boy up here doesn't go elsewhere. So the Academy has got to work."
