Newcastle United manager Sir Bobby Robson had revealed how he has spent more time with French winger Laurent Robert than with any other player he has worked with. Jimmy Walker

ROBSON THE ROBERT COACH

Sir Bobby was impressed by Robert's display against Fulham on Monday night at St James' Park - and while he was delighted to see him score yet another goal - Robson is looking for alot more.

Robson said: "Ten goals? Well, he has to score goals, doesn't he? Wingers have to score goals.

"He's had a couple of, I think, ordinary games of late and he was on specific orders on Monday night to turn on the ball and look forward and have a go at the full-back and get beyond him.

"He's been just picking up the ball on the halfway line and he's been hitting through-balls all the time, and I'm saying 'Hugo Viana can do that, but what I want you to do is get in that area of the field and not on the halfway line and sticking balls for Alan Shearer'.

"Alan Shearer isn't going to chase after long through-balls - Kieron Dyer might, but Alan Shearer doesn't. Alan Shearer needs balls coming across the face of goal, otherwise he isn't going to score.

"He needs service, Alan. If you do that, Alan will chalk all the time, so producing crosses from good strategic positions rather than deep ones is fundamental to Alan. Alan becomes a great player when we do that."
