GIVEN SWIPES AT PLAYERS

Irish keeper Shay Given has taken a major swipe at his Newcastle United teammates.

Speaking to the Sunday People, he said: "I want to stay here for the rest of my career but I'd hate to think I wouldn't ever win anything. That's the bottom line.

"I also want to believe that there is the same desire to win in the dressing room. If players don't have that, then they shouldn't be here - it's as simple as that.

"Basically, if we didn't have Alan Shearer we'd be looking at the Nationwide League. The amount of goals he has scored and the amount of points he has got us is phenomenal. He's not just the top scorer in the league, he's a brilliant captain and a true leader."
