SHEARER BACKS CHAIRMAN
Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has backed chairman Freddy Shepherd's descision to blast the playing squad for a poor first-half of the season.
Shearer said: "He can say what he wants, can't he? He's the gaffer of the place and he's as frustrated as we are.
"Particularly, the last two performances haven't been acceptable.
"We'd done well to get ourselves back into contention after a dreadful start, but the last two have been poor and we're as frustrated as (Shepherd) is."
Sir Bobby Robson said: "He's the chairman of the football club and has the right to say what he feels.
"I'm not cribbing about it, but we're all frustrated as well and nobody is more frustrated than the players and myself."
