England boss Sven Goran Eriksson will meet with captain David Beckham in Madrid, Spain this week to discuss the possibility of Newcastle United's Alan Shearer returning from international retirement.

Eriksson places huge emphasis on "squad spirit" according to The People and he wants to see what the senior members of the England squad think of a Shearer return and how it would affect the personality in the England camp - hopefully in a good way.

If Beckham agrees, Eriksson will make a serious approach to Newcastle skipper Shearer to come out of retirement and help England - who are struggling for goals with Liverpool's Michael Owen injury plagued.
