Newcastle United manager Sir Bobby Robson has praised Charlton defender Jonathan Fortune following performance at The Valley on Saturday.

Fortune had the job to try and keep the Premiership's leading scorer Alan Shearer at bay - and did so - leading Sir Bobby to praise him.

ROBSON SAID: "Shearer was quiet and you have to give the opposition credit for that.

"Jonathan handled him as well as anyone. He didn't let him turn and made him play backwards."
