FIREWORK DRAMA
THE OFFICIAL SITE: The teams had just emerged from the tunnel when one of the fireworks set up for the pre-match display toppled over before shooting directly into the crowd into ther lower tier of The Billy Wright Stand.
Newcastle United's club doctor was one of the first to arrive on the scene after he raced from the visiting dug-out. A woman believed to be in her late 30s was led away from the scene with blood streaming from her face.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey was clearly shocked by the incident and confirmed at half time that the fan was being treated in hospital for a facial injury and an investigation was underway - Mr Moxey also said that no less than eight fans sitting near her were being treated for shock.
The rocket fired across the pitch when the players were warming up, and Magpies' striker Lomana LuaLua has told how players were shocked by the incident.
"I'm not sure what happened but the firework had obviously been toppled over for it to fly into the crowd," he told Newcastle World TV.
"It flew past us when we were warming up, and it wasn't too far away from hitting Lee Bowyer and a couple of other lads.
"I saw the woman with blood coming from her head and it was a bit of a shock. Hopefully she'll be OK, it could have been a lot, lot worse."
Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw at Wolves, with Alan Shearer getting the equalising goal for the Magpies.
