Newcastle United's elusive insider has struck again, this time for The Express (though no doubt the same source who in recent weeks has fed The Sun and The Telegraph various contradictory stories). Today's Sunday papers are carrying reports that Mike Ashley is considering placing the club into administration should they be relegated to The Championship.

It also leads with the paragraph; "Now there are fears among the Toon army that desperate owner Mike Ashley, who is also having a torrid time with his sports retail business, could stun the football world by taking the famous North East club into administration;" Something which many fans probably hadn't even considered, until today.

The "Club Insider" who if real needs to be sought out and start packing up his desk, is said to have told the Sunday Express;

"We are looking at a Leeds United scenario. I don't think people realise how serious things are at St James' Park. Relegation would make it a complete disaster."

The club, if reported correctly (who knows) would be worth just £100million in the Championship, not the £200million it's currently valued at, and the clubs costs would not be sustainable.

However administration at this point in the season, as The Express rightly points out would earn Newcastle a 9 point deduction - confirming their arrival in the lower league. A prospect that even Mike Ashley cannot be wishing upon his investment.

Unfortunately whether this piece of sensationalised journalism has any substance or not, the club will continue to be a victim of gossip and rumours such as this until it climbs out of the drop zone and secures next season's Premier League spot. Something which will be a challenging (but not impossible) task considering the upcoming fixtures.

For now, we all need to get behind the team, understand the fact that realistically we will be ending the season manager-less and lacking leadership, but hoping that the players can summons enough fighting spirit to take away enough points from their last 8 games.

dub, lets point out why its sh*t, and leave it up. going into admin would allow the company to avoid paying out some or all of the cash owed to other companies or individuals. in this case, nufc, owned by mike ashley, would be attempting to avoid paying the money owed to...mike ashley, the sole significant creditor. a likely story, i'm sure you would agree.

thanks biff. i'm going stir crazy, having written off the arsenal and chelsea games, i reckon we are in the middle of almost a month between the hull and stoke games, with no competitive matches to play. hate england weekends especially.

This is probably crap, but the truth of the matter may be that Ashley doesn't give two @#$%& about the club and will happily abandon a sinking ship if he needs to. But we knew that already.
