Danny Guthrie, believes that he and his team-mates should be taking full responsibility for being 18th in the Premier League table because they are the ones who go onto the pitch week in and week out. The 21 year old who is recovering from a hamstring injury and hopes to return next week to help as the club struggles to stay up said;
"It's the players who go out there on a match day, whatever anyone says. For me what was going on behind the scenes didn't affect me. We went out there as fit and as well prepared as if nothing had happened, so I think it is up to the players to take responsibility for results on the pitch.
There are eight games left and a lot of points to play for - but it doesn't look good when you look at the table and we have got a lot of hard games as well. But we are more than capable of getting ourselves out of it - and it's about time we get out there and do it.
No-one's heads have gone down. It hurts when you lose games, and the hardest thing to do is to pick yourselves up, but that's what we have got to do and get ready for the Chelsea game.
We have got a lot of experienced players in the dressing room, which helps. You can turn to them and they have been there, seen it and done it."
All respect to Danny Guthrie, he's a good young player with a solid mental approach, but he's wrong. The players (most of them at least) are not too blame. I blame the management and the board almost completely for our situation.
Management is responsible for poor team selection and poor tactics.
The board is responsible for the unsettled atmosphere surrounding the operation of the club and a lack of depth and quality in crucial areas (ie. Attacking central midfielder).
For Danny Guthrie to attempt to throw himself into the myre and claim that it's all his own and his team mates fault will not wash with me and it shouldn't with anyone else.
I do feel that if Ashley had just let Keegan do things his way then we would be doing just fine.
I'm not saying we would be where Villa are but we certainly wouldnt be in the sitution we are in now!
What else can he say? If he does anything other than take responsibility he's a whinger and not a team player.
I'm guessing if you're a mate of Danny's having a pint with him at the pub, he'd tell you a somewhat more nuanced story of NUFC's travails this season.
