Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Fulham v Newcastle

By Tyne-Talk
November 8 2008

Newcastle travel to Craven Cottage this weekend in the Sunday 4pm Kick Off against Fulham on the back of their first clean sheet of the season & two consecutive wins under Joe Kinnear. Newcastle United's form has improved in their last six games with just won defeat in their last five. Fulham host on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park, but did win 2-0 against Wigan in their last home game. Fulham manager Roy Hodgson will be without Fredrik Stoor who is suffering with a cold and Dickson Etuhu, who has a knee injury, whilst Seol Ki-Hyeon is back in the country but also struggling with a knee injury and is a doubt.

Fulham will welcome back Toni Kallio who has recovered from a virus.

As a result Hodgson is likely to start with the team he played against Everton.

After making a brief appearance against Aston Villa on Monday night, Newcastle's Michael Owen is hoping to feature in the starting eleven after regaining his fitness following a groin strain, but may have to make do with warming the bench as Kinnear looks set to stick with his winning team.

As a result Danny Guthrie may also sit on the bench whilst Nicky Butt starts and Joey Barton will shrug off the consequences of his controversial return to Premier League action and also start.

As normal Mark Viduka and Alan Smith remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

FULHAM FACT: Fulham have taken the title of having the worst record in the Premier League after scoring just 8 goals in 10 games.

NEWCASTLE FACT: Newcastle's poor defensive record has seen them keep just 2 clean sheets on the road since 2006.

Fulham 0 - 5 Newcastle United

I just have a feeling that we'll tank them.

Oba is now match sharp and ready to bang them in.

I was watching Barcelona last night and Eto'o banged in 4 goals for himself. He is the most similar player to Obafemi Martins I think there is.

I'm sure Martins will becom Samuel Eto'o MKII

Yeah i'm predicting a game completely dominated by Newcastle but don't think it will be a 5-0 win I reckon a 1-0 win with complete dominance over the ball.

For me, Enrique's performance sums up his time at NUFC: maddeningly inconsistent.

Jonas has not been his usual stellar self on the ball today, which worries me more...

MESSAGES->author

And, oh yeah, we're completely screwed if Taylor has to miss any significant amount of time. If he does, maybe Bassong should be given a go next week. Cacapa has been shocking.

We are playing too slow... giving the ball away far too much.

Cacapa and Enrique scare the hell out of me whenever they have the ball... you dont know where its going to end up!

Shola are Martins not playing close enough. Bring on Owen for Shola.

Boro and Spuds winning at the moment - we need three points here.

What an uninspiring bunch of (insert cuss word here). Get the ball, give it back to Fulham. Surely we have a better option than Enrique, he is terrible. Let's hope the lads get an earful in the change room and show some sort of passion in the second half.

As unnecessary as Colo's foul was, he had to at least play Johnson. Cacapa was the cause of that penalty with his AWFUL turn.

One thing should be clear: the pen is Cacapa's responsibility, regardless of who took the foul.
