Roeder’s Message on Owen’s “Setback”

By Nick Raynor
April 17 2007

Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder has stated that just because Owen is not playing for the reserves tonight, there is no setback in his comeback.

Owen has been injured since the World Cup, and that was only after making 11 appearances for the Magpies in the whole 2005/2006 season.

The England striker has just started playing in friendlies again, but he was not included in tonight’s reserve squad for the clash against Middlesbrough reserves.

However, Glenn Roeder has told fans that Owen is still on course.

Roeder said:

"While Shola Ameobi will be at the Riverside tonight I have decided not to play Michael Owen. But any talk of him having a setback is complete and utter rubbish."
