Newcastle Unied winger Damien Duff has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

The former Chelsea star picked up the injury in the 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth on Saturday, which has prematurely ended his inconsistent season.

Duff, who signed for £5 million last summer, had a scan on Sunday which showed no break.

Roeder said:

"There is no break, but his ankle is badly swollen and he won't play again this season,

"It's bad luck for Damien coming at a time when he was beginning to show the sort of form we have been looking for."
