Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder says he will not be contacting Chelsea over the possible loan signing of Andriy Shevchenko.

Reports at the weekend have linked Newcastle with Shevchenko over a possible loan move to St. James' Park.

The Ukrainian superstar has been struggling this season at Chelsea after his high profile £30 million move from AC Milan, and reports have suggested he could go back to Italy on loan.

But Glenn Roeder has ruled out a move for the striker, but paid tribute to the talent the Chelsea star has.

Roeder said:

"Shevchenko is a wonderful player and a player any club would love to have. But I have not contacted Chelsea about him and I won't be contacting them.

"I am afraid some of the transfer talk over the weekend is pure fantasy."
