Speaking in yesterday’s Daily Post, Little said that more of Tranmere’s home-grown talent will be pushing for first team places next season: “I think we have four or five young players who could really stamp a name for themselves at this level this season.  "Danny Harrison and Steve Jennings should be a massive threat to Jason and Ranks for the midfield positions, which is good.  "Last season we relied a lot on Iain Hume, Paul Hall and Chris Dagnall. We felt we needed a little bit more power.  "It's going to be interesting to see how Eugene Dadi does in pre- season."

The Manager also hinted that he may well be tempted to use the loan system if the necessity arises. "We will be keeping an eye on a lot more football this season to make sure we are aware of players if we need them. We will use the loan window if we need to." This is a change from recent seasons when Rovers have barely ever taken advantage of the loan system and perhaps shows that after big investments in his squad last season, Little has only very small amounts of money to play with as he builds his squad for another promotion push.

Despite this, Brian Little refused to whole heartedly rule out any further signings prior to the season opener at Swansea on August 6^th, just four weeks from now.  He told the Daily Post “We are not shutting the door at this stage. We have calls into people and are aware of certain situations.  We said last summer after signing Mark Rankine 'that's it'. Two weeks later we signed Jason McAteer as it was something we could not miss out on. In our business you can't say no for certain.”

Of course his ability to move in the transfer market depends a lot on the future of young defender Ryan Taylor who is still attracting interest from Everton.  Tranmere’s Board turned down a second bid from the Toffee’s earlier this week and look reluctant to sell him for anything less than £1million.  If Everton come up with that money however, Tranmere’s squad could look a whole lot different in a few weeks time.

With Rovers having apparently made an improved offer for Liverpool midfielder Ritchie Partridge this week and with fans still hoping that a new striker will arrive at Prenton Park before the season begins, the next few weeks look set to be interesting in one way or another. 

Certainly from the comments of Brian Little and Chairman Lorraine Rogers, there is less scope in the market than last year but with Paul Hall still the only high profile departure from last seasons squad that finished in third, we should be fairly confident for the season to come!
