A place for fans of both Rovers and AFC Wimbledon to discuss Saturday afternoon's upcoming match at Prenton Park as Rovers look to bounce back from the 4-1 home drubbing by Burton Albion last weekend...
With the 2014/15 League Two season now into it's final eight matches, our match discussion thread returns once again for the second of two consecutive home games for Rovers when they host play-off chasing AFC Wimbledon at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon. Tranmere are of course going into the game on the back of a 4-1 home thumping by League leaders Burton Albion last Saturday and will be looking to bounce back from that result.
Whether you are unable to make the game for any reason, or even if you are attending, this is the place to discuss all the pre-match build up including team line-up and score predictions, events during the match itself and all the post match fall-out and analysis. The thread is open to fans of both sides to discuss the events surrounding the game so if you haven't got a Message Forum accounts yet then why not sign up now?

i`m leaning towards a score draw, but i`m hoping for a narrow victory, 2-1, because keeping a clean sheet is not an option
I'm going with my heart rather than my head and saying a narrow 2-1 win. I think that we will score first, get pegged back and then score a late winner. The tide has to turn sooner or later. I just hope that this is not when we are in the Conference.
A good one for the Treble Chance. If the defence holds out, I fancy Rovers to win. However, central defence is so poor at the moment that I hope that we play 4-5-1 to pack the midfield. I believe this is the only chance of avoiding the drop. I have been watching Rovers for 57 years have never seen a worse defence.

Must win game. I don't care if we win 1-0 or 20-19, just bloody win! Winning 4 from 8 sounds tough, 4 from 7 impossible!

I agree with you that the defence is dire but I have have been watching Rovers since 1949/50 season and I think that the 1985/86 defence was probably the worst ever.However even the re-election team of of 56/57 was better than the current crop.
I am struggling to think of any time when our central defenders were as poor
With no Fonners a weak defence and Akinfenwa , have to say I'm a little worried!
i am going for a convincing win today ,the lads know they are in a fight and will be up for every game till we are safe
Missed today as my eldest had a rugby tournament in colony bay. How did we play?
That was probably the most deserving of a win performance this season. I'd normally be elated at a late equaliser especially in our current situation but I felt the players gave their all today and outplayed Wimbledon so ultimately came away feeling like we'd lost.
I guess the performance gives some hope for the remaining seven games but once you're behind Hartlepool from the position they were in, you have to wonder if that's it.

What a difference a hard working creative player made today, many thanks to EFC you may well of given us a huge chance of survival. Him and Hume on from the start for me now, creativity is what we have been missing. That point may well make all the difference!
Much more effort on the pitch today I came away feeling a lot more positive, would have liked to have seen Holmes and Laird start, not sure what the back 4 were doing giving the ball away on so many occasions I want to see the ball played on the ground, I may get slated for saying this but I feel really positive after that I my money is on us staying up, yeah we are not a great technical side but there was more purpose today and it was great to hear no boos and the players getting a good applause at the end
On the plus side new brighton under 13's came second overall and have qualified for the next round against teams from Ireland, Wales and Manchester even if it was in colony bay.

Great News!
George Green was fantastic. He over hit a few corners but his crossing was so good are players was not fast enough to get anything on them. But I thought we played very well. Not convinced on the keeper but he made two great saves. Green will be on a major high tonight man of the match for me.

Green frankly looked on a different planet to everyone else. Yes he made a few mistakes and looked to do too much at times, but his effort, determination and drive was light years ahead of the rest of the team. He was 2 yards ahead of everyone else most of the game. Humey was excellent when he came on as well. Play like we did in the second half for the rest of the season and we could yet pull clear of danger.

I agree with you totally about George Green-was a class apart from the rest of them. A brilliant equaliser too. I thought Hume was only average though but will do better with more minutes on the pitch.
My heart sank when I saw the team sheet-those who get stuck in[Holmes and Laird ]only on the bench again. Baffling team choice yet again.
I also thought that they should have had a nailed on penalty right at the end. What a sickener that would have been.
Thought Brezovan could have done much better for the goal, specially as Akinfenwa pretty much scuffed his shot but I agree two good saves kept us in it but barely had anything to do aside from that!
Good performance today and we were unlucky not to come away with all 3. Green was outstanding and with him in the team we at least stand a chance of scoring goals. As for the other, how many times is dugdale going to stand and watch a striker have a @#$%& and score before he's benched.

Akinfenwa - fair play to the fat f%*ker , a real handful for our central defenders and a nice touch when faced with "you fat b~*stard" chants with a "Who me?" shrug (tho I guess he gets that at every game). Wouldn't turn him down in our side.
I thought Green was quite fantastic today for a 19 year old, still a bit to learn as when to release the ball rather than trying to beat everyone all the time, but this is really picky as he will learn and today was a breath of fresh air to the side. Well done Everton in loaning us this young gem, what a pity another team that plays in red over the water doesn't see fit to help a neighbour in trouble.

Who is the possible third being dragged in out of interest Matty? Are you talking about Cambridge as I think they are in real danger of being dragged in.
As for Akinfenwa I think you'll find its more muscle than fat!

Its shame we've dropped into the bottom two again after a much improved performance. If we can play that that until the end of the season then we are in with a real chance of avoiding the drop. What a superb performance by George Green.

The problem with Cambridge is that they're still 6 points in front of us.

I was right behind that on the kop and it was unfortunate ,deflected around him

It was a deflection off a defender, not sure which one and wrong footed him slightly but he should have done better.
Edit - see inflatable bone beat me to it. I was dead in line too.

Akinfenwa is someone I wanted to sign in the summer. He scored 17 goals for Northampton 2 years ago and helped them to the playoffs. Fans as I recall were not happy when he was elbowed and they did fair a lot worse the next season.
He's just bulky not fat.
A decent outcome but I'm still a little bummed tat it wasn't 3 points, but if the players do what I know they are capable of, then Tranmere will stay up.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

George was outstanding today and considering he only joined a couple of days ago slotted in easily.
He was also clattered early on and didn't even get a foul but , got up and proceeded to torment their defence all afternoon.
We also missed a sitter(Jenno) and Max was very unlucky with his first time effort.
Brezovan settled down and more two important saves.
Much improved team performance and we now have a real midfield gem.

I don't want to be a show off here but I started saying about 6 summers ago that we should sign Akinfenwa. I think he was at Northampton at that time.

I am not at all worried about the program. It really does not matter who we play as it is impossible to tell from one week to another which team will pitch up. The lads need to take the confidence of Saturdays finish and carry it through to the next game. As they say all the games are cup finals now.

and dugdale missed a free header from 6 yards, forgot about that one
Akinfenwa also missed a sitter and they had a pretty good shout, well, a VERY strong shout for a penalty at the end.
Just watched it on video. The penalty decision could have gone either way. The ref did however have a very good view of it and was pretty sure that it wasn't one as he showed no hesitation in waving play on. As an ex-referee these things are pretty instinctive and your first reaction is usually the right one.
