Achterberg Testimonial Set to Be Season Highlight

After months of talk and speculation, early details have now finally been made available for John Achterberg’s much deserved testimonial game as he takes part in what is his eleventh season at the Club in 2008/09. Here we bring you the information we have so far and clearly a lot of thought has already gone into its organisation.
Prenton Park may not be seeing much joy so far this season for Rovers supporters but a fresh announcement this week might well see the Stadium host the highlight of the 2008/09 season in the form of a testimonial to remember for long serving goalkeeper John Achterberg.
For a long time the subject of debate amongst Rovers fans, particularly when Achterberg was released by the Club and then re-signed a week later in 2007, John's testimonial is much deserved from scouring the early plans it looks like being an evening to remember.
The initial format appears to be a shortened Heroes Game to begin with which be between a team of players from the Wembley 2000 Team and a Tranmere Past Team which will consist of players that John has played with during his ten years at Tranmere.
Following this game, the players involved in it will walk around the pitch giving fans the chance to get autographs and photographs with their past heroes before the main testimonial game (details of which are yet to be confirmed) takes place but is probably likely to be Tranmere Rovers against a team which has some significance to John and his career with hometown club FC Utrecht of being one team suggested at this early stage.
The match will be refereed by local official Mike Dean and players including Clint Hill, Jason Koumas, David Kelly and Andy Parkinson may all be involved in the Wembley Team whilst other players such as Ryan Taylor, John Aldridge and Wayne ‘Chief' Allison may also feature for the opposing team.
It sounds already like a must see event for Rovers fans with a great chance that your past hero will be making an appearance so there is sure to be an excellent turn-out in March next year when the event is set to take place.
In addition to the matches on Monday 30th March there is also an Evening Dinner planned for Monday 23rd February which will also prove to be popular with Fans and further details of tickets for this are due out in the near future.
John will also be auctioning off items of football memorabilia given to him over the years by players including signed national team shirts and signed Tranmere shirts from former players.
