A goal in each half for the home side from David McGoldrick and James Hayetr saw Rovers' play-off hopes effectively ended at the Fitness First Stadium on Saturday.

Goals From James Hayter and David McGoldrick make it three wins in a row for Bournemouth at home and surely sends Tranmere Fans home with the question in their head saying is it over in terms of the Play-Offs?

Tranmere's Play-Off dreams lie in tatters after the visitors slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth, who moved a step closer to safety in league one.

Tranmere Captain Ian Goodison give Bournemouth a big boost and a litte favour by getting his second yellow card of the game. 

Chris McCready was at fault for the Cherries' opener as he allowed Steve Fletcher to win a header from the edge of the penalty area which in turn set up David McGoldrick to score his third goal of the season.

After a brief spell of good possession at the start of the second half though Rovers were punished again when Ian Goodison was judged to have handled Darren Anderton's free kick in the penalty area leaving James Hayter with the chance to score his 10th goal of  of the season from the penalty spot as Goodison also earned a booking for the incident.

 

Hayter's penalty finished Rovers off and Bournemouth could have helped themselves to more as Josh Walker and Luke Summerfield both wasted late chances.

Nine minutes after his first booking, Goodison earned his second yellow card of the afternoon for tripping Steve McGoldrick.

Bournemouth could have put Tranmere to bed twleve minutes from time when James Hayter missed a good opportunity which he put wide.

Tranmere hopes of a play off spot look in doubt as Blackpool have one game in hand and won today 3-1 away at Bradford.   

 

Jason McAteer – In all honesty there was no Man of the Match today but of the eleven 'players' out there, McAteer pulled the strings and put in the graft before he tired towards the end.
