Shock for City supporters as City 'keeper Tony Warner moves to Fulham on loan. The Bluebirds number thirteen made is Cottagers debut in their opening Premiership clash at home to Birmingham City, and will have impressed Fulham boss Chris Coleman.

In a shock move, out-of-favour Cardiff City 'keeper Tony Warner has been sent on-loan to London outfit Fulham and made his debut for the Premiership club against Birmingham City on Saturday. Perhaps even more shocking, the former Millwall shot stopper kept a clean sheet in a move that could completely change the Englishman's career.

Only a day after Dave Jones announced that he was looking to offload Martyn Margetson, Warner left the club and could well make his move to the capital a permanent one. The departure of 'keeper Edwin Van Der Sar to Manchester United and Knee injuries sustained by Jaroslav Drobny and Mark Crossley during pre-season has left the Cottagers desperate between the sticks.

Coleman brought in Warner as an emergency solution, and he made a pleasing debut as Fulham entertained Birmingham. The 31-year-old kept a clean sheet with a late save denying Mikael Forssell the highlight of a Craven Cottage stalemate for the player who started his career in the top flight with Liverpool.

Coleman will have the option to sign Warner permanently in January should he prove a success on a six-month loan. The surprise transfer means Neil Alexander's deputy is now Margetson, who had been linked with a move to arch-rivals Swansea City. Warner's departure also frees up wages as the towering goalkeeper had been one of the highest paid players at Ninian Park.
