Defender Darren Williams has signed for Cardiff City from Sunderland on a full-time basis. The 27-year-old has spent a successful few months on-loan at Ninian Park and will now line up against his former team-mates on Saturday.

Cardiff City have signed on-loan right-back Darren Williams on a permanent basis. The hard working defender is officially a Bluebird and can now line up against Sunderland, with a stipulation in the loan contract forbidding him from playing against his former club.

Having played at Sunderland for 9 years, Williams moves to Ninian Park after a successful loan spell. The 27-year-old has added steel and resilience to the City backline and he will continue as a senior team regular after completing a full-time move to South Wales from the North East.

Williams will line up alongside Daniel Gabbidon, James Collins and Chris Barker as the Bluebirds look to build on the 3-1 defeat of Gillingham last weekend when the Black Cats make the long trip south. He will expect a good reception from the travelling fans, and his departure means for the first time ever the Sunderland playing squad contains no memories of former ground Roker Park.

Welcome to Ninian Park as a full-time Bluebird.
