After three successive away draws, Cardiff City have landed a home tie in the fourth round of the League Cup against Premiership opposition. Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth will visit Ninian Park as his Hampshire outfit look to make the last 8 of the Carling sponsored competition.

Cardiff City's reward for a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over AFC Bournemouth in the third round of the League Cup is a visit from Premiership side Portsmouth. Currently sitting 11th in the top flight, Portsmouth are desperate for silverware and he chance to play in Europe and are expected to send their strongest possible side to South Wales as they face the Football League Championship strugglers.

The game takes place on Tuesday November 9th, and a big crowd will be expected with Cardiff not having reached this stage of the competition since the 1986/87 season. Pompey will be the first Premiership club to visit Ninian Park in competitive action since that famous F.A Cup triumph over Leeds United in January 2002. Can The City perform another 'giant killing' ?

Fans have already started reminiscing of past matches against the south coast club, and the top of the table clash between the two sides in March 1983 is a keen talking point. During the goalless draw the famous Portsmouth clock was vandalised by a handful of the 5,000 travelling City fans! An act of mindless hooliganism perhaps - but pure comedy for the Bluebirds fans! "Pompey, what's the time?" rang around Fratton Park!

The tie of the round looks like the clash at St.James' Park. Newcastle United, without a major trophy since the Uefa Cup success of 1969, host Chelsea in a mouth-watering clash of two Premiership giants. Holders Middlesbrough could lose grip of their first ever piece of silverware as they visit Anfield, whilst fellow Championship outfit Nottingham Forest will hope that a home tie against Fulham will console supporters after a dire start to the campaign.
