The Exiles had a fantastic run in the competition last season, which gave them additional finances as they look to mount a promotion challenge this season. After qualification from the group stages, County went on to beat Swansea City 3-1 in the quarter-finals, and then knocked out holders Cardiff City on their way to the final.

It wasn't to be a triumphant day up in North Wales though, as the large band of travelling Newport supporters witnessed their side hammered 6-1 in the final against an already promoted Wrexham side.

T.N.S v Wrexham

In a competition that is snubbed by most City supporters, it's the best draw possible. There is sure to be big interest from Newport fans as they look to cause another shock over their South Wales rivals, and hopefully a few of our fans will make the short journey to a City that is inhabited by many Bluebirds anyway!

Sadly, Lennie Lawrence again looks set to treat the FAW Premier Cup with a distinct lack of respect. The competition will be used for City's fringe players to play competitive action, and some young blood may also be involved. Since the arrival of Sam Hammam, City have always fielded second-rate sides in the Premier Cup. How we can snub the £100,000 is beyond me!
