Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear can continue his recovery from a triple heart by-pass with the reassurance that his job is safe as long as he is fit to return. Managing Director Derek Llambias has said in an interview that the club has no intention of replacing Kinnear in the foreseeable future and also confirmed that the club are expecting him back on April 11th for the Stoke game. Llambias said;

"Joe Kinnear is still Newcastle manager and he will continue to be going forward.

We're not looking to replace Joe, we want him to continue as manager because we feel he is the right man for the job. We like him and we trust him. That is very important for us as we look to move forward.

We have heard people saying we're after this manager and that manager in the last couple of weeks, but we want Joe to come back and carry on the job he started.

It will depend on his health, of course, but unless he has a relapse he will be back in charge. He's at home recovering well and is desperate to get back on board again. He's strong and he's convinced he will be coming back.

Some fans have questioned whether he is the right man for the job, but I hope they give him the time to convince them he is.

Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood are in charge in his absence. Chris has done a good job. He is full of confidence. Colin is in there helping us and Joe is still in the background.

We are happy with that situation, and that will take us through until the end of the season.

When Joe's well again he will be back in charge. He's targeted the Stoke game [on April 11] for his comeback and I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to come back sooner. We have to rein him in a bit, though. We have to be sensible and so does he."

I would like it if Gonzalez tried to come back sooner. As a result he could play vs. Manchester United and save points.

But it is not about wanting.. I know.. he must ensure he is 100% before beginning to play, I understand it. But it is still a possibility.

The best thing we can do against Man Utd is to build a brick wall on our goal line...............its the only way we'll keep a clean sheet

On the subject of Kinnear, I'm hoping that when the summer sun arrives and the season ends, we'll be apppointing a decent PERMENANT manager.
No offence to Kinnear but he isnt the bloke to take this club forward.

Kinnear is not the man to take us forward. Even if he was good/fit enough he only has a few years left in the game so whatever he achieved another manager would be coming in to put their stamp on it.

4 wins in 20 games or whatever his record is shows he`s not the right man for a job. He was only ever a stop gap.

Lame-ass or whatever his name is, is just showing how naive he is about football.

What was Big Sam`s record when he got the boot was it a 20% win rate?

Glen Roeder: 72 games, 33 wins = 45.83%

Graeme Souness: 83 games, 36 wins = 43.37%

Joe Kinnear: 23 games, 5 wins = 21.73%

In my opinion, Roeder was the best manager we've had over the last few years. Think of the absurdity now-he was pushed aside for 'glamour signing' SA!

Just trying to give context-I have no beef with JFK personally, but he has not gotten results. Management needs improvement as much as the squad.
