Player Profile #24

24. Flavien Belson

(on loan from Metz)

Position: Midfielder

Date of Birth: 22/02/1987

Nationality: French

Previous clubs: Metz

A defensive midfielder in the Patrick Vieira mould, Flavien signed a one season loan deal in the summer of 2008, with a view to a permanent transfer to Milton Keynes.

A tall, quick player, there didn't seem to be much of a middle-ground with Flavien's performances, which were either superb or disappointing. On his day he is capable of dominating the midfield and can distribute the ball from in front of the back four wonderfully, but still a confidence player at a young age, if it didn't go right early on Flavien could drift out of games.

After an excellent debut as the Dons won 3-1 away at Huddersfield, Flavien's imposing physique can be a real asset but not having the lowest centre of gravity, he can sometimes appear a little on the clumsy side, as was shown when he recieved a straight red for a poor challenge against Bournemouth in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Flavien possesses undoubted potential, and it will be interesting to see the decision made on his future in the summer of 2009.
