Ronnie Moore: "It Was A Terrible Performance"
By Deadly Submarine October 11 2008
In his post match Press Conference, Rovers Manager Ronnie Moore was rightly critical of his side after the 3-1 defeat at home to Millwall on Saturday afternoon - Rovers' third successive home defeat in League One in contrast to their much improved away form.

Ronnie Moore's post match Press Conference saw him quite rightly criticise the performance of his side in the 3-1 home defeat to Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Moore told Tranmere World..............

"We had so many players who were off the pace. The crowd have moaned and groaned but I don't blame them.  They get behind you if you do the right things in the right areas."

I'd be complaining today if I'd come and watched that.  I can't, hand on heart, stand up for any of them.  Bas Savage has tried as well as he can, he's run and chased and got a goal, and you can't blame Danny for anything that went on."

"We've lost three on the trot at home and your goals against say you've got to score three to win a game at home.  We're at home, we should be setting the pace and the tempo which we didn't do."

"The first goal...the defending was so bad.  Then one ball down the middle beat the two centre halves.  We've been all over the place as a back four, that's probably as bad as we've been as a back four."

Ronnie Moore Dugout

"It's difficult to stand here and say why all four players played like that...even Shotts got involved in it and he has been a revelation for us. We've gone long so often in the second half to Bas Savage, exactly what they wanted."

"It doesn't matter what shape you play, if you've got nine players who have an off day the result will be like it was today.  It was a terrible performance and I didn't see it coming.  We were second best all over the park."

"I want to apologise for the performance and there's one thing for sure, we certainly won't get another one of those this season.  They'll be in tomorrow and we'll watch the DVD and we'll point out where the embarrassing things are."

At least he has not made any excuses for once, it was one of the worst home perormances I have seen in a long time. Its up to him to get it right though, a couple more defeats and the pressure will start to mount.

Seems to be just me who thinks that Millwall were actually a pretty good side and one of the best I've seen in our League so far this season.

I'm not using that as a Ronnie defending excuse or anything but just to lookat the players they have and the way they played.

Yes we were sloppy and below par too but I fancy that we might be seeing a lot of Millwall in the higher areas of League One this season.

Dani is right though.. no consistency

Never seen a game where there was no effort made at all.

Very good Mikey!(Sm152)

The thing is though Dani, if Ronnie comes out and doesn't say things like that he will get slated anyway so he can't win really.

Ok there is no consistency? maybe if people actually got behind the team at home we will get our results maybe as mentioned in another thread they are scared at playing at home with the so called 'boo boys' wanting ronnie out.Where is the atmosphere in the kop there used to be? With people chanting the players names who arnt playing whats that doing for the confidence of the players on the pitch>?

This is not about the supporters, it is about the sheer lack of effort and commitment of the players, if they give nothing they can expect nothing back from the supporters. We will always support a team that gives 100% effort for the cause.
If they are not good enough, asked to play out of position or play to unsuitable tatics that problem is down to the manager.
But there is no excuse for lack of effort.

Explain then how the Players visibly show more confidence in away games just at the moment?

Well it certainly looks to me that players feel more comfortable with the different formation and tatics we play away from Prenton Park

But if we played 4-5-1 at home then you'd only get on the managers back.

The team as a whole can't win no matter what they do.

The 4-5-1 is very flexible, in that with Moore and Sonko on the wings, both are equally capable of playing as a striker or a winger, so the 4-5-1 is interchangable with a 4-3-3

The Kop was singing all through the match, even when we were 3-0 down,Millwall weren't that good, the officials were awful, their first goal stemmed from a ball that was clearly out for a throw in to us,their 3rd was dubious, although Matt reckons it wasn't offside,Greenacre nearly had his shirt torn off his back in the box, there was a handball in a scramble in the box,& Millwall got away with murder, there were arms across faces, pulls, but we didn't look as if we had a clue,Shuker was the only one who looked likely to do anything,Savage made a nuisance of himself,Jennings should have been pulled off,but Ronnie says 8 or 9 were awful, but he only made one substitution,if it wasn't working why didn't he put players on the pitch who would try hard?FFS give Ahmed or Barnett(or both) a chance,he could have taken Shotten off, moved KAY into centre back,ANTWI right-back,& brought 2 midfielders on instead of KAY & JENNINGS
