Nyron Nosworthy

Sunderland have been boosted by the news that Nyron Nosworthy is back in light training following a hamstring tear. Nosworthy, who has missed the last five games after sustaining the injury in the 2-1 home defeat to Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa, was put through some light exercises yesterday.

It is expected that Nosworthy will be back in contention for a first-team recall by the end of February.

Boss Ricky Sbragia confirmed: "He's doing some light work and he could be rejoining us next week, so we're pleased with that one."

Teemu Tainio, meanwhile, returned to training today following a knee injury. The midfielder has missed the last three games.

Tainio was named in Finland's squad for their friendly against Portugal tomorrow but pulled out because of the injury. "We have to be careful with Teemu, he did not want to risk it," said Sbragia.
