Scharner link resurfaces

Sunderland have once again been linked with Wigan Athletic's Austrian defender Paul Scharner. Scharner is thought to be unsettled at the club and a number of papers including the Mirror have reported that Sunderland aManager Ricky Sbragia is redy to make an offer for the Centre Half.

Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia is ready to bid £3million for Wigan's versatile Austrian star Paul Scharner.

Sbragia wants a tough defender to bolster his stuttering side and Scharner would be ideal.

Wigan chief Steve Bruce would like to keep Scharner, who signed a new deal last summer, and Bolton are also keen.

Scharner is on a big salary but Sunderland will match those terms. Bruce, under siege from clubs trying to sign his stars, might struggle to find a suitable replacement.
