Graham Kavanagh, recently released from by mutual consent has taken up a Player Coach role with Carlisle United. Kavanagh had been on loan with the Cumbrian side for the last 10 weeks after failing to get back into the Sunderland team following a string of injuries.

"This is a new challenge for me, but one I'm looking forward to," said Kavanagh.

"I'm looking forward to combining the playing and coaching side of things and hopefully we will continue to build on the improvements that have been made recently."

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott added: "We've already seen the influence that Graham brings into the dressing room and out on the pitch and I think is a very good signing for us."

Kavanagh was signed by former Sunderland boss Roy Keane in 2006, but suffered a knee injury early in his time at the club and he failed to get back in the side.
"I'm gutted that, due to my injury, I didn't get to play more for the club," he said. "But I'd like to thank everyone at Sunderland for their support."

Good luck Kav, let's hope he puts in a few good words about some of our lesser players from the Roy Keane era and takes them to Carlisle freeing up funds for Sbragia to bring in better players.
