Sunderland's Roy O'Donovan has left the Stadium of Light for the bright lights of Blackpool. The 23 year old is the Seasider's 20th signing of the season. Blackpool caretaker boss Tony Parkes is trying to strengthen his side after losing eight of his players last week.

O'Donovan made his name playing for Cork City where he finished as the league's top scorer in 2007, before a big-money move to Sunderland in August of the same year, yet another Roy Keane wonder signing that never worked out for the Black Cats.

The striker came off the bench in 19 Premier League and Cup games last season.

On the signing Parkes said, "We are delighted to have signed Roy, there were a lot of other clubs in for him and we are delighted he decided to come to us."

"We are also grateful to Ricky Sbragia for allowing him to come to us until the end of the end of the season, Roy has bags of pace and in Ireland he was a proven goal scorer."

"We are sure he will be a popular player with the supporters and will add something else to our squad."

The striker spent a loan spell at Dundee United and scored one goal in 13 appearances.

But because Dundee United were flying high in the SPL, the youngster spent most of his time on the substitutes bench and was recalled by the Black Cats at Christmas.

O'Donovan will go straight into the squad for Saturday's game against Birmingham City.

Here's hoping that Ricky Sbragia will continue shipping unneeded players out to create room and cash to bring in bigger, better names.
