Despite being surrounded by fitness concerns in the build-up, Kamil Zayatte came through 90 minutes and scored for Guinea against Burkina Faso at the weekend.
However, Zayatte's strike proved to be little more than a consolation goal as Guinea went down to a 4-2 defeat.
It also proved to be a disappointing weekend for Kevin Kilbane, who put
through his own net as the Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw
by Bulgaria in Dublin. Caleb Folan was an unused substitute in the same
game.
Boaz Myhill was another left on the sidelines as Wales crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Finland at the Millennium Stadium to all but end their chances of World Cup qualification. Myhill was an unused substitute while Sam Ricketts was suspended for the game.
Peter Halmosi was the only Tiger to experience a win at the weekend as Hungary were 1-0 victors in Albania. The winger was booked in the 79th minute before being replaced by Zoltan Gera in added time.
Halmosi, Kilbane, Folan, Myhill and Ricketts will now remain with
their countries for games later this week while Richard Garcia is also
preparing for international action with Australia, who face Uzbekistan
in Sydney on Wednesday.
