The last time Sunderland were pitted against Hull City the scoreline was the same, however that time the man in charge at Sunderland was caretaker boss Ricky Sbragia and the game was in Hull rather than at the Sunderland Stadium of Light.

And how the home team has changed since that encounter - there were 7 new faces - Bent, Cana, Cattermole, Da Silva, Mensah, Campbell and Turner - in saturday's squad compared to the squad that face Hull last christmas time.

Snuderland got off to a good start with Darren Bent converting a penalty on 11 minutes after Caleb Folan's strange hand ball from a corner kick.

Hull equalised just before half time when Kamil Zayette scored from a corner - again Sunderland showing their achilles heel - the inablility to defend set pieces.

Andy Reid scored the second early on in the first half with a cracking volley past 'keeper Boaz Myhill.

The third goal was scored by Darren Bent, the Hull defence backed off and off, giving Bent the chance to slot the ball into the corner of the net from close range - Frazier Campbell was waiting for a tap in should Bent have decided to pass.

The fourth came from the head of Michael Turner, making his debut for Sunderland against the side he was signed from - though this may go down as an own goal by Kamil Zayette - and if it does he will have scored a goal for each team.

Frazier Campbell looked lively and got  90 minutes under his belt - he looks a great prospect.

Lorik Cana and Lee Cattermole both had good games, making some lovely passes and some crunching tackles - they sure know how to endear themselves to the Sunderland fans.

Paulo Da Silva and John Mensah came on for their premier league debuts at left and right back, and both looked comfortable, calm and assured on the ball - something we have been missing at the back for a long time.

All in all it was a great result, and the lads are now placed 7th in the table, and will be goingto Burnley full of confidence - and will hopefully put in a repeat performance against Owen Coyle's men who were beaten 4-0 on saturday.
