news: Sbragia appointed as chief scout

Ex Sunderland manager, Ricky Sbragia, who Niall Quinn announced would have a job with SAFC 'for life' has been appointed Chief Scout of the club.

Sbragia took over as Sunderland boss after Roy Keane walked out on the club after a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers and led the club to safety on a day which saw both local rivals Newcastle and Middlesbrough relegated.

Sbragia will takes up his new post this week.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said: "Ricky has a wealth of knowledge and experience and I'm delighted that he will be heading up our scouting operation.

"He has a vast network of contacts and he knows just what it takes to be a successful footballer at this club so I'm sure he will be a fantastic asset to our backroom team."

Sbragia took over the reigns as manager following the departure of Roy Keane and steered the club to top flight safety
