Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has launched a stinging attack on the clubs supporters after a section booed the side off the field following last night's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough. Allardyce says the Reebok faithful need to be more realistic in their expectations and enjoy what the club has already built up in a season which he describes as one of the best the club has ever had.

"I heard boos, Boos! I mean, can you believe it?. They want to go home and wake up, this lot. But there you go . . . that's what you have to live up to when you've built everybody's hopes and dreams up as high as we have done."

The Bolton cheif says the local people should remember what the club has achieved over the course of the season regardless of what happens during Sunday's crunch match against relegated Birmingham City.

"Whatever happens on Sunday, we've had the best season we've ever had and one of the best seasons this club has had in its history, We might not have won anything but what we've done in the cup competitions, what we've done in Europe and sustaining our position in the top eight for all of the season is a very good achievement for a club like this, with our resources, and people should not forget that.

"They shouldn't be expecting any more than what they are getting at the moment a lot more than they've had in their entire lives, because most Bolton supporters now have never seen anything as good as this. There's not too many old enough to remember the Nat Lofthouse days."

Allardyce went on to say that his staff, players and medical team feel the anguish as much as the supporters if not more having seen the team pick up just one win since the end of March.

"It's the best success this club has ever had, for them, and we keep growing. There is nobody more frustrated than the players in the dressing room and the coaches, and me and the medical staff.

"Whatever a fan might think, they are never going to get as disappointed as we do, I don't care what they say, because it's affecting us more than it will ever affect them.
