O'Brien Gets Ireland Call

Bolton Wanderers defender Joey O'Brien has been named in the full Republic of Ireland squad to take on Sweden at the start of March. It is the first time that full back O'Brien has been involved with the seniors having previously played at youth and U-21 level for his country in previous seasons.

New Ireland manager Steve Staunton had hinted that he would give the youngster a call up last month and has since stayed true to his word by bringing fresh blood into the side inherited from Brian Kerr.

Manchester City's Stephen Ireland, Liam Lawrence of Sunderland, Spurs full back Stephen Kelly and Reading's Kevin Doyle where also named in the Greens squad for the first time.
