Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he would like to be considered as the next manager of the English national team. Allardyce plans to retire from football in five years from now once his contract with Bolton comes to an end but states that the chance to prolong his career to manage the national side is an attractive opportunity.

"I'd like to give myself five more years. I'm 50 now, I promised the family and the wife in particular that 55 might be the best time for me to get out of the rat race and see more things in my life."

"Well that (the England job) would obviously be something you'd love to be considered for and then you'd have to assess how long you wanted to go on at that point. I mean how successful you are as England manager is, it can be a long stay but it can be a very short stay!"

Members of the Football hierarchy met yesterday morning to discuss who would be replacing current boss Sven Goran Eriksson after this summers World Cup finals in Germany.
