New signing Matt Jansen is grateful to Bolton Wanderers for giving him the opportunity to get his promising career back on track.. The 28-year old made his debut for the club as a late substitute against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend and he is glad to have been able to resurrect his career at the Reebok Stadium with the Wanderers.

Ironically, Jansen left behind a seven year spell with Rovers early last week to go in search of more regular first team action, so to pitch up with another local team has come as a great relief for the one time England squad member.

"I was frustrated because I was not getting games which is what I really needed. As the season went on I got frustrated more and more, not getting the games I wanted. The January window came about and I thought I had to do something about it. Thankfully, Bolton took the chance." he told the official website

Jansen admitted that he had a number of offers in the pipeline once his availability became apparent, but the reputation of Bolton manager Sam Allardyce was a swaying factor in his final decision to move across Lancashire to join the Trotters.

"Once it was official the phone hadn't stopped ringing, which was very flattering. I went to speak to Man City and numerous other clubs, but Sam has a habit of getting the best out of players who have lost their way. I'm just hoping that he can get me back on track.

"It's been a couple of years that I've been out in the wilderness, and since the accident it's been a stop-start career. Now, I just want to play football and Sam will bring the best out of me.

"Sam impressed me a great deal and I knew a few of the lads there. They are doing well and I didn't want to be involved in a relegation battle. I'm looking forward to the challenge."
