Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce is struggling to bring fresh faces into his squad after transfer targets Abdoulaye Meite and Shinji Ono both seem likely to move elsewhere. Talks with both players broke down with Olympique Marseille defender Meite wanting to represent the Ivory Coast in this months African Nations Cup before commiting himself to a new start with the Trotters.

Ono on the other hand has his sights set on a move back to his native Japan after being told that he was free to leave top Dutch club Feyenoord earlier on in the season.

Allardyce explained to the clubs official website that there was no fresh developments on the incoming front but did stress that attempts to strenghten the team would be ongoing.

"We have no one coming in for us at the moment," said the Bolton boss

"Sadly, two deals have already broken down this week and we are not able to pursue them. We will continue to do what we can to try and strengthen but it is proving to be very difficult. It is frustrating but I can't do anything about it."

"From our point of view, we would have loved Meite to come and join us. If you are going to spend a lot of money in the transfer window and then be without a player for five to six weeks - due to international commitments - it is counter productive.That is the main reason why we pulled out in bringing him in."

"We have talked to Ono's representatives, but nothing has come to fruition, It seems likely that he will go back to Japan to rekindle his career."

Meanwhile Bolton have confirmed their interest in released Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen after the former England international ended his long association at Ewood Park this week.

"We have him on our list, without really doing anything more than that, Because of our need, we have to consider everybody." said Trotters manager Allardyce

"If we could resurrect Matt's career, it would be a good move for us and a very good move for him,"

Jansen has made just 13 Premiership starts for Rovers since a motorcycle accident almost ended his career three years ago and his desire to stay in the North West would work in Wanderers favour.

Manchester City, Everton and Preston North End are also said to hold an interest in the former Crystal Palace forward.
