A self confessed Bolton Wanderers supporter who has made his way through the clubs youth ranks to make a breakthrough in the most bizarre of circumstances.
Named as the Wanderers substitute goalkeeper for the FA Cup win over Watford, the teenager came off the bench for the closing minutes in that game as an outfield player when replacing Jared Borgetti.
Ashton joined the club's Academy in 2003 and previously played schools football as a striker before deciding on a more permanent career between the sticks.
