Bolton's pursuit of Japanese international Shinji Ono has gathered momentum after his agent admitted that Dutch club Feyenoord where willing to do business. Ono has struggled with injury throughout the course of this season but a chance to link up with international compatriot Hidetoshi Nakata at the Reebok Stadium is proving to be an attractive opportunity.

Agent Chiel Dekker revealed that his client wanted a new challenge after nearly five years playing in Holland and is hopeful that a deal can be agreed between the two clubs in the coming weeks.

"Shinji is looking to leave for a new challenge after four-and-a-half years at Feyenoord. Feyenoord are ready to co-operate to let Shinji leave and we know what Sam Allardyce said about him.

Dekker claims that the Wanderers have followed the progress of the combative midfielder ever since he scored against England at the City of Manchester Stadium in June 2004.

"Bolton have been watching him for some time and he impressed them when he played for Japan against England two years ago. I think Shinji would be able to play in the Premier League as it would suit his style.

"We are now waiting to see if Feyenoord and Bolton can agree something and it depends on the two clubs."
