Bolton Wanderers could be about to make a surprise swoop for Blackburn Rovers injury prone striker Matt Jansen according to a report in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. The 28-year old is expected to have his contract at Ewood Park terminated by mutual consent this week so that he can go in search of more regular first team football elsewhere following a three year injury nightmare.

Jansen has made over 150 appearances for Rovers since moving to the club from Crystal Palace in January 1999 and he was a prominent goalscoring figure in the side which achieved promotion to the Premiership alongside the Wanderers in 2001.

He made the England squad in 2002 and was playing with high confidence only for tragedy to strike when he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident whilst on holiday that summer.

A long term injury lay off and a loan spell at Coventry City followed and he has since only played a bit part in Blackburn's first team plans both under Graeme Souness and Mark Hughes management.

Current Blackburn boss Hughes said that the time was looking increasingly right for Jansen to end his long association with the club.

"We've got a meeting with Matt and his advisers on Wednesday and I think a decision will be made then.

"Obviously, we've always tried to do what is best for Matt and if he feels it's time for him to move on then we will look at that situation. But we'll have the meeting and see what happens."

Premiership rivals Everton are also said to be interested in securing the services of Jansen.
