Deal For Meite Hinges On African Nations Cup

Reports claim that Bolton are willing to meet Marseille's £1.8 million asking price for defender Abdoulaye Meite but only if the Ivory Coast star pulls out of African Nations Cup duty. Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has been a long term admirer of Meite and has tried to sign him on previous occasions only to be thwarted by the French club's asking price.

The Trotters will lose five players to the ANC next month and the move for Meite all depends on whether or not he is willing to snub his country in favour of a dream move to the Premiership.

Ironically Meite's club Marseille will play Bolton in the next stage of the UEFA Cup in February.
