Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Reg Hender sadly passed away just over a week ago at his home in Ipswich at the age of sixty four. As a youth Reg played for non-league Whitton United and also had a spell training with Alf Ramsey's Ipswich Town prior to moving up to Lancashire to play professionally for Bolton in the early 1960's.

Reg's teammates during his time with the Wanderers included Brian Birch, Bryan Edwards, Roy Hartle, Eddie Hopkinson and John Higgins - all members of the 1958 FA Cup winning team.

His one and only Bolton appearance came at Burnden Park against Rotherham United in the Fourth Round of the League Cup as he was given the number eleven shirt in place of the injured Doug Holden.

Later on in his career Reg returned to Suffolk and played in turn for Whitton, Bury Town and Haverhill Rovers whilst also having a spell as the manager of Hadleigh United.
