Wanderers striker El-Hadji Diouf has been ordered to pay up £1000 after pleading guilty to spitting at 11-year old Middlesbrough supporter James Shields during a football match last year. The incident happened exactly twelve months ago this week when Bolton played Middlesbrough in a Premiership game at the Riverside Stadium. A number of complaints where made to Cleveland Police about the conduct of Diouf after the game which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Senegalese international Diouf was substituted shortly before the end of the game on November 7th 2004 and is said to have spat a sports drink at the child from the away dugout.

Solicitor Alan Walsh made a guilty plea on behalf of his client who would have had to go on trial next month.

A spokeswoman for the Crown Prosecution Service made this statement earlier on today.

"He has admitted to discharging liquid from his mouth but without the intention to spit at any individual directly. There was no intention to use disorderly behaviour but it was reckless"

Diouf 24, has been ordered to pay £500 to the victim with a further sum of £500 for court costs.
